Course Description

This course has been developed to provide awareness training to individuals responsible for conducting workplace safety inspections. The course has a strong focus on Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Codes, however is applicable to workers in all provinces.

Upon completion of the course, students will:

  • Be able to identify the key elements of effective inspections.
  • Be familiar with legislated requirements for inspections and observations.
  • Be knowledge in the sources of measurement and performance standards.
  • Identify the value and role of work-site and situation-specific inspections.

My dedicated career in the occupational health and safety field began in 2005.Having spent 5 years as an emergency medical dispatcher, I found the move from “reactive” to “preventative” challenging and rewarding.Experiencing workplace incidents and accidents from an emergency medical responder’s point of view assures my passion for educating workers and assisting employers to create positive safety cultures.In 2009, I completed the Health, Safety & Environmental Processes Certificate Program with the University of New Brunswick.Early in 2010, I became certified as an external auditor for Enform and the focus of my career since then has primarily been in the completion of certificate of recognition audits.To date I have completed over 120 certificate of recognition audits as an external auditor utilizing the Enform Certificate of Recognition Health and Safety Audit Protocol, and the eCompliance audit tool.The audits performed involve contractors providing services within the oil and gas industry, but encompass a vast range of services, and include: Pipeline Vacuum Truck Services Gravel Truck Services Power Tong Services Fuel Distributors Oilfield Electric Secondary Containment Rig Moving Heavy Equipment Operations Log Hauling Helicopter Services Picker Truck Services Service Rigs In September of 2013 I accepted a contract teaching position with Northern Lakes College to instruct individuals enrolled in the Oilfield Operator Training Program in safety theory and practice.I held that position until May of 2016.
